Tärnaby Alpint invests in snow storage for an earlier and more planned start to the season
Tärnaby Alpint is taking an important strategic step for the future by multi-year investment in snow storage - an investment that aims to ensure a early and more predictable start of the season in Tärnaby. The investment creates new opportunities for skiing, alpine training and long-term development of the destination.
Earlier start - greater opportunities
Snow storage - or snow farming - means that snow from the winter season is stored over the summer for use in early autumn. This method allows Tärnaby Alpint to reduce its dependence on weather and temperatures during the pre-season and thus plan its opening and operations with greater certainty.
An earlier start to the season creates clear added value - both for guests who want to ski early in the season and for active training skiers and clubs looking for good training conditions already in the autumn. With this investment, Tärnaby Alpint is planning to be able to open the ski centre already during the latter part of October next season, given normal conditions.
- This is a strategic decision for Tärnaby Alpint to be able to guarantee an early season start for the ski resort, which means that we can then offer skiing and alpine training earlier in the autumn than today for our guests, says David Johansson, co-owner of Tärnaby Alpint.
A long-term approach and the right methodology
For a number of years, Tärnaby Alpint has followed developments in the field and evaluated various solutions to find a method that is sustainable, effective and adapted to Tärnaby's conditions.
- "We've been looking at snow storage for a long time, but it's only now that we've found a sustainable method that will work for us in Tärnaby. The parameters we have looked at are melting, lifetime of the material and handling on the slopes," says Hans Bromee, co-owner of Tärnaby Alpint.
The venture uses snow storage materials from the Finnish company Snow Secure, which specialises in solutions for storing snow over the summer. The material is designed to reduce melting and protect the snow from external influences, helping to preserve volume until the start of the season.
More efficient use of resources and energy
In addition to the possibility of starting the season earlier, the investment also contributes to more efficient and sustainable operations. Better control of snow availability creates the conditions for improved planning of resources and energy consumption, as well as the opportunity to control snow production in a more energy-efficient way.
This is part of Tärnaby Alpint's long-term strategy to ensure stable and sustainable operations, while further developing the facility as an attractive alpine destination.
A stronger alpine destination
The investment in snow storage is another step in the work to strengthen Tärnaby's position as an alpine destination. With earlier opening, better planning conditions and high quality skiing, a stronger offer is created for both guests and active skiers.
- This investment strengthens Tärnaby's position as a competitive alpine destination and reinforces our long-term strategy for the development of Tärnaby as a ski resort," says Mr David Johansson.
